An 8-week block is long enough for grades to drift and short enough to rescue with structure. This template assumes one heavy course you want to transform; repeat the pattern per course if time allows.
Weeks 1–2: Capture and chunk
- Download all PDFs/slides into weekly folders.
- After each lecture, spend 15 minutes summarizing three sentences without notes.
- Generate a practice quiz per week; edit to match lecture emphasis.
Goal: Nothing is orphaned in an unopened Downloads folder.
Weeks 3–4: Retrieval becomes default
- Monday: closed-book quiz (new + 5 review items).
- Wednesday: flashcard session on definitions.
- Friday: 20-minute timed mixed quiz.
Start an error log if you have not already.
Weeks 5–6: Interleaving
Mix topics from weeks 1–4 in each quiz—exams are cumulative. Increase application questions using Bloom-style editing principles even if you are not a teacher: upgrade stems to "predict" and "compare."
Week 7: Mock exam week
- One full-length timed practice (80% of expected exam length).
- Grade misses by topic cluster, not individual trivia.
- Office hours or study group only for top three clusters.
Week 8: Taper and sleep
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| Mon–Tue | Light mixed quizzes (30 min max) |
| Wed | Review error log only |
| Thu | Walkthrough of hardest diagram or proof |
| Fri | Stop new content; sleep 7+ hours |
Cramming new chapters in week 8 rarely pays.
Weekly time budget (realistic)
| Activity | Hours/week |
|---|---|
| Lectures + readings | (course default) |
| Retrieval practice | 3–4 |
| Quiz editing/generation | 1 |
| Error log maintenance | 0.5 |
Total added study structure: about 4–5 hours, much of it replacing passive re-reading.

Accountability
Pair with a classmate: swap quizzes after editing. Explaining why you deleted an AI question teaches both of you.
When the plan breaks
Missed a week? Do not restart the whole template. Resume at current week, upload the latest PDF only, and accept partial cumulative review—something beats perfect planning on paper.
